One million dollars. That that has always been my goal  to reach in order to retire comfortably. I remember when I was a child my father telling me that if you had a million dollars you could leave it in the bank and live off the interest alone.

Now that was longer ago than I care to admit but one million dollars still is very large sum of money. I have been plugging away putting what I thought was a reasonable amount into a retirement fund and purchasing the occasional stock whenever I had little extra money.

While I am no were near one million dollars I really was not that concerned. I still had several years to go before I planned on retiring and I had believed what I was always told. Invest  a certain amount of money in a certain type of fund and in twenty to thirty years you will be a millionaire.

Then of course came the crash and most of us lost a sizable amount of our retirement nest eggs. Again we were told not to worry markets go up and they go down stay the course and you will be a millionaire, it will just take a little longer.
